The Karnataka Bandh Brings the State to a Standstill The people of Karnataka are suffering from a grave injustice. They are being forced to share their precious water with Tamil Nadu, even when they are facing a severe drought and water scarcity. The Cauvery River, which is the lifeline of millions of farmers and citizens, is being drained by the neighbouring state, leaving Karnataka dry and parched. The central government and the Cauvery Water Management Authority have turned a blind eye to the plight of Karnataka, and have ordered the state to release 3,000 cusecs of water every day for the next 15 days. This is a blatant violation of the rights and interests of Karnataka, and a betrayal of the federal spirit of the Constitution. The people of Karnataka have no choice but to protest against this unfair and arbitrary decision. They have called for a statewide bandh on September 29, 2023, to express their anger and frustration. The bandh has disrupted normal life in many parts of the state, especially in Bengaluru, where schools, colleges, malls, transport services, hotels and restaurants have been shut down. Over 40 flights have been cancelled at the Bengaluru airport, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. The police have detained over 700 protestors who tried to block the roads and highways. The bandh has also affected the economic activities and livelihoods of many people who depend on daily wages. The people of Karnataka hope that their bandh will not go in vain, but will serve as a catalyst for change and justice. They hope that their bandh will not be seen as a sign of weakness or desperation, but as a sign of strength and determination. They hope that their bandh will not be met with indifference or hostility, but with sympathy and unity.
